Spanish is offered at the following levels:

  • Basic

  • Intermediate (2 levels)

  • Business (I) and

  • Advanced Business (II)

Entry requirements:

Basic – exposure until form 3; persons with CXC grade III and below (before 1998) or

GCE grades D/E. 

Intermediate – a CXC pass grades I or II; GCE pass grades A – C; successful completion

of the Basic level

Business (I) – Completion of Intermediate level or CXC grade I or GCE grade A

Advanced Business (II) – Completion of Business I or CXC grade I or GCE grade A

The following will be expected to write a placement exam:

1.                  Persons who have not been exposed to the language for 3 years

2.                  Persons who have not done the language at CXC or GCE level but who may have prior knowledge of the language

3.                  Persons who are unsure of their level of knowledge

Basic & Intermediate Language Courses:

Students will build from the basic level (present tense, simple future tense) to more advanced conversation and grammar and extended vocabulary at the intermediate level (past, future tenses etc.)

Course Objectives:

Students will be able to:

1.                   Communicate with native speakers

2.                   Use the correct accent   

3.                   Explain aspects of the culture of our closest  Spanish-speaking neighbours

4.                   Construct sentences and paragraphs

5.                   Translate from French to English and English to French

Business Communications, Customer Service, Office Administration Duties, Describing the organisation:         

Main topics covered in Business II

Discussing plans and obligations, Profits and Commissions, Payment terms and methods, Banking  

     and insurance, Import/Export, Trade Fairs, Socialising

Suggestions for registration:

q       Participants should register for the Basic to Advanced Business programme if they   are to obtain maximum benefits of learning another language.  The Business courses are not targeted only at persons in business, but at anyone who wishes to have a comprehensive grasp of the language

q       Benefit from reduced fees and a longer payment time if you register for an entire training programme (3 or more levels)

q       Saturday, evening or daytime classes

q       Group discounts are available

q       On site training (at workplace for groups of 8 and up)
